Manchester Airports Terminal 1 flies around 11 million passengers every year. There have been many renovations and extensions since it opened in 1962. The most recent saw the security area expanded to 14 lanes.

There are a wide range of parking options available from Terminal 1. You can choose from the luxury of a no fuss meet and greet service, or the easy park and walk option at the short stay multi-story parking that is attached to the terminal. Or you can select one of the cheaper, do it yourself long stay park and ride options with parking both on and off-site.

Jet Parks has five car parks providing park and ride parking. All of their parks offer great security and excellent value for money and each has a free shuttle service that runs every 15 minutes. Depending on the site you choose your journey time to the terminal will be between 5 and 15 minutes.

General information

There is a separate check-in area for regular international flights and special charter flights.

The main check-in area is on the upper floor, while the charter check-in for any Airtours passengers is located the lower level. These two zones are linked by lifts and escalators.

The following check in times are recommended when flying from Terminal 1:

International - 3 hours
European - 2 hours
Domestic - 90 minutes

Self service check-in is available at Manchester Airport. The self service kiosks let you to check-in to your flight and print your own boarding card and avoid the queues. Simply follow the instructions to print off your boarding pass, then follow to signs to drop your bags at the bag drop desks.

Arrivals is on the lower level.

Baggage storage is located in the Arrivals area and costs £5 per item per day. They also charge £5 for the recovery of lost items.

Moving between terminals

- To move between Terminals 1 and 2 use the moving walkway along the Skylink. This will take around 15 minutes.

- To move between Terminals 1 and 3 use external walkway which takes 5 minutes.

Facilities at Terminal 1

There is a great number of shops and eateries at terminal. Most of these located after security control however, there are a few available landslide for you while you wait for travellers to arrive. Shops include Fat Face, Biza, Monsoon, Beau Avenue, Travelex and WH Smith.

Or you can simply relax or have a meal before your flight from the large number of food outlets at Terminal 1, including Giraffe, Starbucks, Cafe Balzar, Upper Crust and The Grain Loft.
